Dawn Patrol – I’ve Got Your Back

From the Urban Dictionary:
When someone has your back, they are there to support you unconditionally. When life seems to blindside you with undesirable events, they’re there for you without complaint, supporting you in your moment of need, not for their own selfish, self-gratifying reasons, but because your well being to them is foremost in their mind and heart.

Last week I received a call from my son Matthew, Matt to everyone else.  “Dad?” he says. “I think this move to Denver was a mistake.”

I can tell he is upset by the tone of his voice.

“This isn’t working out the way I expected.” he continues. “My job is ok but I don’t have anyone here that I can call a friend and after six months I don’t see it changing.” “Plus its eighteen degrees and I miss the Florida sun.”

We discuss the pros and cons of staying in Denver and the more we talk the more I see he really had made up his mind before he had called.

Its a long drive from Denver to Orlando and I his mother and I didn’t want him to go it alone.

“Let me check the flights and make some arrangements to have someone cover my deals while I’m gone,” I say.
“Sorry, Dad.” is his reply.  “No problem, son, I’ve got your back.”

I make a call to Jose one of my trusted colleagues in the office and explain the situation.  Jose says without hesitation, “No problem, I’ve got you covered.”

The trip itself is a tale for a different story and in the end, we arrived in Orlando safe and sound.

In my business, I have surrounded myself with people that “have my back”.  From Jose in the office to Terie that does my home staging, to Manny that makes amazing photos of the homes after they are staged.

We all work as a team to support our clients so when the time comes to help them, we can say. “I’ve got your back.”
