Running On Empty – Jackson Browne

Running on Empty — Jackson Browne

“I built this f**ker!” Tony Robbins yells from the stage at a Unleash the Power Within seminar.

If you’ve never been to a UPW event it is hard to explain. Kind of like describing the ocean to someone from Kansas that has never been out of their home state. It is part rock concert with a mosh pit, part inspiration, and part couch session with a psychologist. In other words, you sing, you dance, you laugh you cry. As the Hadaway song goes Life Will Never Be The Same.

Once you complete the seminar and have seen the effect that Tony has on everyone you are inspired to go out and help others find their why. To help them get past their demons whether it be the thoughts of “I’m not good enough” or perhaps some bad relationship. But how?

When you look at the Robbins organization you will discover that he did indeed “build that f**ker.” Tony started with all the cards stacked against him. As a child in a large, low-income family it would have been easy for him to become just another person on welfare for the rest of this life. But he didn’t

He became a student of Jim Rohn, a motivational speaker of the day. He studied Neural Linguistic Programming from one of its founders John Grinder. Tony developed programs by building off of other’s peoples’ ideas and distilled them into his own. And he keeps redeveloping those techniques. In other words, he did the work.

In my business, I deal with a lot of new agents. Many say they want to learn the business of real estate but what I find is that they are looking for shortcuts.

One of my functions for our company is to interview agents that want to place their license with us. During the interview, many will be concerned with how much training they will receive. As our conversation continues and I explain all the training we offer, I can’t tell you how many times I will be asked, “Is that class mandatory?” “Can’t I go out and start selling before I get the training?”

I can’t help but think to myself, “What?? Would you want a surgeon to decide one day he or she wants to do brain surgery without having been educated in the procedure and had months of hands-on training?”

This week I am with my group of Spartans in a beautiful mansion in the Reunion area of Kissimmee. As I sit at the huge dining room table next to the founder of our group I look forward to what ideas we will discuss and how I can build something of significance.

There are times when I feel like I’m running on empty but these meetings always regenerate my desire to be a better person and help those in my community. What can we build together?
